Become a VAA Honey Sponsor! Planning has started for the VAA’s annual presence at the Melbourne Royal Show. The Show is a great opportunity to sell a wide range of authentic Victorian honey from our members' own apiaries. Did you know...between 30,000 and 50,000 people visit the Melbourne Royal Show every single day...and the Gourmet Pavilion - where the VAA has its booth - is one of the most popular destinations at the Show. We want to offer every visitor a wide range of delicious and unique honeys. Our booth in 2025 set a new record for sales and we aim to surpass that accomplishment in this year. We are thrilled this year to have a collaboration with Australia's first honey sommelier, Jessica Locarnini. We will send a sample of all donated honey to Jessica and she will provide a taste and aroma profile of your honey. We will use the analysis in our show promotions to help visitors to our booth select the perfect honey for their tastes. Our honey sponsors can use the same analysis in their own marketing and promotions. Time is running out! Contact us now to save your place in the VAA's Melbourne Show Booth! |
We are reaching out to our members and industry partners to obtain your support in our efforts to stock the highest quality honey and hive products in our booth this year. Please contact us via the email addresses below by Friday 28th August if you're interested in collaborating with the VAA at the Melbourne Royal Show. Based on last year's sales, we need 2,000 to 2,500 kilos of honey. Here is a list of honey products that we need for the 2026 Show. We have different ways for you to participate and you can tailor your contribution in terms of size, format and product!
2026 Target
2026 Target: 50 to 200 jars of each product. Sponsor Benefits We want your participation in the VAA's Melbourne Show to drive sales at the show and throughout the year. Your brand's name will be included in all our marketing and promotions. We will also create a card that will be included with every purchase of your honey that has a description of your apiary, the flavour and aroma profile of your honey and where your honey can be purchased throughout the year. Below is a prototype of the card we're developing for the 2026 Show. |
VAA HiveMeet | Thursday 03 September | 8:00pm to 9:00pm We are happy to have Dr Darsh Rathnayake from Macquarie University as our guest for September's HiveMeet. Dr Darsh Rathnayake is a Postdoctoral Fellow with Macquarie University's Pollinator Futures Research Centre, working alongside Associate Professor Fleur Ponton on frontline solutions to honey bee decline. His research spans two urgent fronts: developing chemical-free probiotics to boost bees' resistance to brood diseases like chalkbrood and foulbrood, and research into entomopathogenic fungi as a biological weapon against Varroa destructor — the parasitic mite now threatening Australian hives. By harnessing fungal pathogens that target mites without harming bees, this work offers a promising, low-residue alternative to chemical miticides. Drawing on Macquarie's on-campus research apiary, Darsh's work sits at the intersection of microbiology, entomology, and practical beekeeping — vital science for safeguarding pollination services and honey production nationwide. |

VAA Swarm Collectors Map | Profile Update Request VAA publishes a swarm map on the website with details of members (voluntary) who are willing to collect swarms and cutouts (paid and unpaid). This maps shows the phone number, email and location (accurate at postcode level not to specific address), together with a note as to the service provided. The information is sourced from the member profile in the website database. If you are on the swarm collector map, please sign in and update your profile with appropriate details as we are about to update the map for the new swarm season. If you would like to start collecting swarms, you need to go into your VAA profile and check the Swarm Collection field and make sure your other details are up to date. Note that it is not necessary to opt out. Only profiles with swarm collection entries are included. Please don't add entries saying you don't collect swarms, just leave the field blank. | ![]() |
